Hosted by NeighborScapes NFP, (10) AmeriCorps members will compose a "Harvey Conservation Corps" who will help catalyze revitalizing green spaces in and around the southern Chicago suburb of Harvey, Illinois.

Summary:

The AmeriCorps members will take responsibility for supporting community gardens, urban farms, and healthy green streetscapes; creating and maintaining trails in nearby parks and forest preserves; helping residents with both environmental stewardship and health education around nature, connecting Harvey students with nature, and maintaining and improving public lands. Essential Duties 1. Wildland Fire Training Certification / Illinois Pesticide Certification 2. Clearing Invasive Plant Species in Parks / Forest Preserve a. Creating /maintaining nature trails in public lands around the South Suburbs 3. Working in urban farms and community gardens Qualifications 1. Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for FEMA Corps and Forest Corps), or a Lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S. 2. Must pass a background check upon arrival to the program. 3. For Part-time members, an individual must be available for 2 or 3 days of in-person service is expected.
