Job Description
Description The Coordinator works closely with and reports to the Manager, Grounds in supervising and scheduling the activities of the grounds staff. Examples of Duties The primary responsibility of this position is the maintenance of all lawns, planting beds, shrubs, trees, flowers, and the daily clearing of the College's walkways, roads and paths. The Coordinator also participates in the planning and construction of new and renovated landscape areas of the campus, and may be called upon to do minor landscape/design estimating. The Coordinator must be hands-on and have the ability to operate and train staff in the safe operation and maintenance of equipment such as mowers, fertilizers, tractors, and backhoes is critical. The coordinator must also have experience and a working knowledge of lawn irrigation systems. The Coordinator will have a proven track record of Landscape Operations Management, successfully managing multiple landscape projects working with the resources available, must have a professional demeanor and appearance, communicate effectively with College and staff, and be production oriented. This individual must have effective written and oral communication while providing leadership, supervision and problem-solving skills. Provides landscape advice, guidance and assistance as well as develops landscape drawings and themes, when required, to project engineers, architects, Manager, Grounds and other campus personnel regarding new building projects or other projects. Responsible for building inter department and New College of Florida (NCF) wide relations Develops and manages a preventive maintenance and repair program for the Grounds Department's equipment, coordinates repair work, and obtains estimates for the repairs Coordinate Grounds equipment, materials, and related subcontractors on a daily basis Monitor Grounds Crew and subcontractors to ensure work is being performed in accordance with the budget and contract specifications Ensure all NCF and job specific safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment, are followed. Oversee personnel needs of the department, including selecting, coaching and training of employees, and evaluating employee performance; implement NCF disciplinary procedures when necessary. Works with employees to promote maximum productivity, morale and efficiency; conducts regular team meetings. Builds a team of fully trained and highly performing grounds personnel. The coordinator must have experience and a working knowledge of lawn irrigation systems, and pesticide application Monitor and drive productivity improvements and efficiency on projects. Develops and manages a preventive maintenance and repair program for the Grounds Department's equipment; obtains estimates and coordinates repairs. Participates in the development of maintenance and construction specifications, standards, and bid documents for landscape capital projects and services. Prepares and reviews landscape bid documents, requests for proposals, and contracts; assists in the bid process for landscape services and materials; participates in the selection of landscape contract services; verifies contract insurances, licenses, experience, and references meet NCF standards. Researches and responds to questions and provides information to contractors, NCF staff, students and the public; investigates complaints; recommends corrective actions to resolve issues; interprets operating policies and procedures. Attends and participates in Landscape Committee meetings, daily and weekly manager meetings, and stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of landscape services. Conducts research on new ideas for projects; evaluates NCF needs and recommends projects to meet those needs; recommends modifications to landscape, irrigation projects, policies, and procedures as appropriate. Identify opportunities and the best approach for implementation. Intervene on troubled projects to improve performance. Ensure work on every project is completed at the level of quality required to fully satisfy NCF. Monitor crews work both internal and external to ensure work is being performed in accordance to the budget and contract specifications. Be proactive on job sites rather than reactive. Reviews job costing, budgets and schedules to ensure projects are being installed efficiently and under budget. Displays a professional demeanor and appearance, and communicates effectively with College and staff and is production oriented. Must have effective written and oral communication while providing leadership, supervision and problem-solving skills.
