What they do

A Landscaping or Grounds Supervisor supervises the staff that provide landscaping for residences, parks, public gardens, college campuses or building or office park grounds. Supervises work to care for plants and trees, including mowing, trimming and planting, and work to repair driveways, walks, benches or other structures. Oversees equipment maintenance and transportation, and communicates with residential customers.

Job Description

Under direction of the County Park Superintendent, assists in the administration of a comprehensive maintenance and development program for a geographical division of a large park system or a small or medium sized park system including parks and/or reservations, assists in the direction of employees engaged in carrying out maintenance programs, assists in the preparation of budget requests and assists in the administration of an approved budget, assists in the development and submission of plans for park rehabilitation and improvement as directed; does related work as required.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a major course of study in horticulture, forestry, civil engineering, landscape architecture, park planning, park management, forest recreation management, conservation, natural resource management, earth sciences or environmental sciences.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of management experience involving planning the care and maintenance of large tracts of ground, including the planting and care of shrubbery and flowers, the maintenance of public recreation facilities and the preparation and administration of budgets.
NOTE:
Possession of a master's degree in any of the above fields may be substituted for the one (1) year of work experience.
LICENSE:
Valid New Jersey driver's license required.
