Job Summary:
The Sports Park Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the daily maintenance and operations of the City of Greenville's 110-acre Sports Park, including athletic fields, medians, and common areas. This position oversees turf care programs, supervises field maintenance crews, and ensures the safety, quality, and playability of all athletic fields. The role involves implementing best practices in turf management and coordinating game day field preparation.Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.Experience:
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in athletic field maintenance and operations.Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver's License. Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's License, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.Essential Job Functions:
Oversees day-to-day maintenance operations of athletic fields and surrounding park areas.Develops and implements turf care schedules, including mowing, fertilizing, aerating, irrigation, field painting, and cultural practices.
Supervises and evaluates turf coordinator and field technicians.
Ensures readiness and presentation of athletic fields for practices, tournaments, and game days.
Monitors inventory and orders necessary tools, paint, fertilizers, and chemicals.
Coordinates and performs field inspections to assess conditions and needs.
Operates field maintenance equipment including mowers, sprayers, string trimmers, and blowers.
Coordinates and manages minor irrigation installation or modifications.
Maintains records of maintenance schedules and supply usage.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Turf and field maintenance practices including aeration, fertilization, topdressing, overseeding, and re-sodding.Infield materials, field painting, and safe chemical application procedures.
Installation and management of irrigation systems.
Field layout, preparation, and marking for various sports.
City policies and procedures.
Skills in:
Supervising field crews and managing maintenance operations.Effective written and verbal communication.
Interpreting maps, blueprints, and maintenance plans.
Estimating resources and timelines for field projects.
Diagnosing and resolving turf and irrigation issues.
