About This Role The Crew Development Trainer is the person who makes our Milwaukee crews better. You'll rotate across different crews throughout the season — working alongside them on our highest-touch properties, setting the standard by doing the work, and developing both new hires and the crew leaders coming up behind you. This position is entirely field work. There is no office component. You'll be on job sites every day, in the weather, with a truck and a crew. What You'll Do Develop crew leaders and new staff Rotate across crews to coach technicians on horticultural technique, quality standards, and efficiency Identify and develop emerging crew leaders — teaching them how to run a job, manage time, and lead people Onboard and train new hires on equipment, safety, and Greenwise standards Help develop and deliver technical training sessions for the branch Deliver the work Perform hands-on maintenance on premium accounts: mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, weeding, pruning, mulching, planting, and watering Apply products according to label specifications and Wisconsin regulations Diagnose plant health issues and complete jobs within budgeted time and materials Represent Greenwise Communicate proactively with clients on site and explain our sustainable approach Report site conditions, crew performance, and client feedback to account managers What You Bring Experience is required — this is not an entry-level role. Required 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a horticulturist or landscape maintenance role Proven track record of training, coaching, or leading crews in the field Wisconsin DATCP Commercial Applicator Certification, Category 3.0 (Turf & Landscape), or ability to obtain within 90 days — Greenwise pays all materials and exam fees Valid driver's license and clean driving record (required to operate company vehicles) Strong plant ID and care knowledge across annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and turf Preferred Associate's degree or certificate in horticulture, turf management, or a related field Experience with organic turf programs or battery-powered equipment fleets Bilingual English/Spanish Physical Requirements With or without reasonable accommodation, this role requires the ability to: Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly Stand and walk across uneven terrain for 8-10 hours per day Bend, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, and perform repetitive hand and arm motions throughout the shift Climb in and out of trucks and equipment and safely operate a motor vehicle between job sites Work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, rain, and sun, with routine exposure to dust, pollen, fertilizers, and pesticides Wear required PPE, including eye and hearing protection If you need an accommodation during the application process, please let us know. Schedule and Seasonality Full-time Monday-Friday, generally spring through late fall, with occasional Saturdays during peak periods and early start times in the growing season. Reports to the Milwaukee Branch Manager. This is a seasonal position. At the close of the landscape season, the role goes on seasonal layoff and returns the following spring. Team members who want to work through the winter can join our snow removal operation — we'll talk through that option with you before the season ends.
