Position Summary:

The Groundskeeper is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and restoring the baseball playing surface for client home games and related events. This position helps ensure the field is safe, consistent, professional in appearance, and ready for play throughout the event. The Groundskeeper works closely with Stadium Operations, team personnel, umpires, and the facility grounds team and must respond quickly to changing field and weather conditions.

Essential Game-Day Duties:

Pregame Field Preparation:

Inspect the field, warning track, bullpens, dugout areas, batting-practice areas, fencing, bases, and surrounding playing-surface conditions before team access.

Prepare the infield skin by watering, dragging, raking, rolling, leveling, and applying conditioner as needed for safe and consistent play.

Set bases, home plate, pitching rubber, foul lines, batter's boxes, catcher's box, coach's boxes, and on-deck circles to game specifications.

Repair high-use areas, including the pitcher's mound, home-plate landing area, base cutouts, sliding lanes, and bullpen mounds.

Coordinate batting-practice setup and breakdown, including protective screens, field equipment, bases, and transitions to game configuration.

Complete a final field walk with Stadium Operations and address hazards, wet spots, holes, loose material, or presentation issues before gates and first pitch.

In-Game Field Maintenance:

Remain available and field-ready from first pitch through the final out unless released by Stadium Operations.

Perform scheduled between-inning drags and spot maintenance without delaying play or interfering with entertainment elements.

Repair mound, plate, base-path, and infield-skin wear during appropriate breaks in play.

Monitor surface moisture, footing, weather, irrigation, and changing field conditions; immediately report any unsafe condition.

Deploy, secure, remove, and store field tarps with the grounds crew when directed, following established weather and lightning procedures.

Respond promptly to requests from Stadium Operations or umpires concerning field condition, equipment, or player safety.

Postgame Restoration:

Remove and store bases, screens, tarps, hoses, tools, field markings equipment, and other game- day materials.

Drag, rake, water, level, and repair the infield, mound, home plate, base cutouts, bullpens, and other high-traffic areas.

Remove debris from the field, warning track, dugout-adjacent areas, and grounds work zones.

Inspect, clean, and properly store equipment; report damage, low supplies, irrigation issues, and required repairs before leaving.

Return the field to the condition and configuration required by the facility and coordinate any next-day or shared-use needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

Follow all ballpark safety procedures, restricted-area rules, radio protocols, and incident-reporting requirements.

Communicate clearly by radio and maintain professional working relationships with players, coaches, officials, vendors, staff, and facility partners.

Maintain an orderly grounds workspace and help track clay, conditioner, chalk/paint, seed, fertilizer, tools, and other field supplies.

Assist with non-game field work, practices, special events, capital improvements, and stadium projects when scheduled.

Perform other field and stadium operations duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Baseball or softball field-maintenance experience preferred; professional, collegiate, high-school, or municipal experience is acceptable.

Working knowledge of infield skin, clay repairs, mound and plate construction, lining/marking, moisture management, turf care, and baseball field setup preferred.

Ability to use hand tools and grounds equipment safely, including drags, rakes, tampers, hoses, lining equipment, utility carts, blowers, and related machinery.

Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while following direction in a fast- paced live-event environment.

Valid driver's license may be required for operation of organization or facility vehicles.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform repeated bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, walking, and standing for extended periods.

Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, and other changing weather conditions.

Availability for home games, including early arrivals, late evenings, weekends, holidays, doubleheaders, weather delays, and schedule changes.

Ability to safely work around active baseball operations, vehicles, powered equipment, moving field equipment, and live batting practice.

Performance Expectations:

The field is game-ready by the established deadline and meets safety, playability, and presentation standards.

Between-inning and weather-related work is completed safely, efficiently, and without avoidable game delays.

Postgame restoration is complete, equipment is secured, and all issues are clearly documented or reported.

Attendance, communication, teamwork, and care of facility assets consistently meet department expectations.
