POSITION SUMMARY

Pinoleville Pomo Nation is seeking a passionate and community-minded Community Gardener to help expand and strengthen our community garden program. The Community Gardener position is an opportunity to help cultivate food security, community wellness, cultural connection, and self-sufficiency for Tribal citizens and community members. The Community Gardener will oversee the day-to-day development and maintenance of the community garden while working to expand its size, productivity, and impact. A key component of the Community Gardener position will be identifying and pursuing grants, donations, partnerships, and other funding opportunities that can provide resources for garden improvements, equipment, infrastructure, educational programming, and increased food production. The ideal Community Gardener is someone who enjoys working outdoors, understands sustainable gardening practices, and is excited about bringing people together around locally grown food. The successful Community Gardener will combine practical gardening skills with creativity, organization, community engagement, and the ability to identify opportunities that can help the garden thrive.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, establish, maintain, and expand the community garden, including planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, soil preparation, composting, pest management, and seasonal garden preparation. Help identify opportunities to expand garden space, growing capacity, irrigation, raised beds, greenhouses, tools, storage, fencing, soil amendments, and other garden infrastructure. Develop opportunities for Tribal citizens and community members to learn about gardening, growing food, composting, seed saving, nutrition, and sustainable food practices. Develop strategies for increasing the amount and variety of fresh produce available to the community. Coordinate produce distribution, community harvests, donations, or other methods of making garden produce accessible to Tribal citizens and community members. Research and identify local, state, federal, Tribal, nonprofit, foundation, and private funding opportunities that support community gardens, food sovereignty, agriculture, nutrition, wellness, youth programming, environmental sustainability, and related initiatives. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Comfortable performing physical outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to work independently while also engaging effectively with community members, volunteers, Tribal staff, and community partners. Effective verbal and written communication. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening exam and background check.
