Garden & Landscape Associate The Hardy Garden LLC Greenwich, CT Job Details Seasonal $20 - $28 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Paid time off Qualifications Carpentry Outdoor work experience Driver's License Driving Mechanical knowledge Full Job Description Job Summary We're a small business that specializes in veggie gardens, alongside landscaping and general landscape contracting work. We do a fun range of outdoor projects, veggie gardens, masonry, playscapes, decks, landscape lighting, as well as installing both traditional and native landscapes. We also perform regular maintenance on veggie gardens and general landscape maintenance (mowing, pruning, edging, weeding, etc). We also do some interior contracting work (the occasional basement remodel) particularly during the winter). The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening, landscape maintenance, and outdoor work, with the ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment. This position offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, contributing to sustainable gardening practices and landscape beautification. Work season typically goes from Mid March to mid December (depending on weather). Winter work varies but I usually try to have some interior work lined up. Existing maintenance accounts are primarily along the i95/Merrit Parkway corridor, from Rye NY to Fairfield CT, and Ridgefield, CT general areas. Installation work ranges through Westchester and Fairfield counties. Our storage / truck parking spot is in Rye NY but you are welcome to drive yourself to/from job locations if that location is inconvenient. Responsibilities Maintain vegetable and flower gardens through planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting. Perform landscape maintenance tasks including bed prep, mowing, pruning, trimming trees, and shrubbery care Use hand tools and power tools for landscaping projects such as edging, planting, spring/fall cleanup, and soil preparation Operate power tools or heavy equipment when necessary for construction or seasonal cleanup Install, monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of gardens and landscapes Conduct hardscape installations including pathways, retaining walls, or patios as needed Provide tree care including trimming, pruning, and health assessments Assist with construction projects related to landscape improvements. Ensure all work areas are clean, safe, and well-organized in accordance with safety standards Qualifications Prior experience with veggie gardening, fine gardening, and landscape maintenance preferred. Mechanical knowledge related to operating power tools, excavators, and other landscaping equipment. Familiarity with plant material, horticulture principles and plant care techniques Strong observational skills, the ability to notice and potentially diagnose pest or disease issues. Carpentry skills are a huge plus. Ability to use hand tools such as shovels, pruners, rakes, and hoes effectively Knowledge of irrigation systems installation and maintenance is a plus. Pesticide Applicators certification a huge plus. Strong work ethic with attention to detail and safety procedures and pride in your work. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting heavy materials and working outdoors in various weather conditions Valid driver's license preferred for equipment operation or transportation needs This position offers an engaging outdoor work environment where skills in landscaping, veggie gardening, homesteading, construction, and maintenance are valued.
