Rogers Market is looking for a part-time Horticulturist & Grounds Gardener who sees our storefronts as something to be designed, not just maintained. Flowers are the first thing a customer sees before they reach our door, and we want someone with a real eye for color, form, and seasonal rhythm to plan and tend them. In this role you will choose and place the plantings at every Rogers Market location, build seasonal displays that change through the year, and keep each bed, planter, and entrance looking cared for and deliberate. We are less interested in someone who can simply keep the grass cut than in someone who can make a property look beautiful — and keep it that way. This role travels between sites on a regular schedule, so a valid driver's license is required. If you know your plants, take pride in a bed that looks composed rather than merely tidy, and enjoy working independently, we would like to see your work. Flowers, Color & Seasonal Design Plan and plant seasonal color at store entrances, planters, and flower beds — selecting varieties for bloom time, height, texture, and color so each site looks intentional in every season. Design and rotate displays through spring, summer, fall, and the holidays so the grounds never look tired, bare, or out of season. Select the right plant for the spot: annuals, perennials, bulbs, ornamental grasses, and shrubs suited to each site's sun, soil, drainage, foot traffic, and our region's climate. Keep plants blooming with species-appropriate care — deadheading, pinching, staking, dividing, feeding, and pruning on the right schedule rather than a single routine applied to everything. Build a consistent Rogers Market look across all locations — clean, warm, and welcoming — so our properties are recognizable and inviting from the road. Propose planting plans and seasonal budgets to management, and source plants, bulbs, and materials from nurseries and suppliers as approved. Photograph and document what was planted where, so successful combinations can be repeated and weak ones replaced next season. Grounds & Curb Appeal Water, weed, mulch, edge, and fertilize beds so plantings stay healthy and bed lines stay sharp. Mow, trim, and edge grass and green areas, keeping crisp lines where lawn meets bed and pavement. Monitor soil health, drainage, and irrigation; catch pests and disease early and treat or report them before they spread. Keep walkways, entrances, parking areas, and outdoor spaces free of debris, litter, and overgrowth so the plantings show at their best. Perform seasonal cleanup — leaf removal, cutbacks, winter protection, and spring and fall bed preparation. Operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment safely; keep equipment clean and in good order. Travel between store locations on a set route and schedule so every site gets consistent care. Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures, including safe handling and storage of fertilizers and treatments. Qualifications & Requirements One to two years or more of hands-on experience in gardening, horticulture, floral design, nursery work, or ornamental landscape maintenance (required). Working knowledge of ornamental plants — annuals, perennials, bulbs, and shrubs — including bloom seasons, sun and water needs, spacing, and hardiness for our region.

A demonstrated eye for design:

color pairing, texture, scale, and seasonal composition. Portfolio required. Please share photos of gardens, beds, containers, or displays you have designed and maintained. Personal gardens count — we care about the work, not where it was done. Be ready to walk us through one of them and explain your choices. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work (required). Ability to work independently, manage time across multiple sites, and follow a route schedule. Able to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Comfortable safely operating common landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, hand tools). Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented, with a customer-friendly attitude — much of this work happens in front of customers. Must be at least 18 years of age. Nice to Have Horticulture certification, Master Gardener training, or related coursework or degree. Floral design or container design experience. Familiarity with native, pollinator-friendly, or drought-tolerant plantings. Pesticide applicator license.
