JOB SUMMARY
This position provides grounds keeping services for all system facilities, such that grounds are clean, well kept, and safe.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Mows grass, waters lawns, and feeds and trim shrubs; tends flowerbeds and regularly inspects assigned work areas to ensure proper standards are maintained.
  • Operates lawn and grounds equipment including power mowers, bucket loaders, and other power equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains campus walks and lots.
  • Plans, plants, and maintains exterior and interior landscaping in accordance with the landscaping plan.
  • Removes refuse and trash from grounds.
  • Enforces safety regulations at the work site.
  • Supervises student or temporary employees during a minor portion of the employee's work time; may assign tasks to a helper.
  • Prepares and maintains athletic fields.
  • Performs general upkeep of outlying buildings and/or structures; i.e.: concession stand, storage shed, ticket booth, baseball dugouts, etc.
  • Adjusts, cleans, and performs minor mechanical work on grounds equipment.
  • Recommends for purchase and suggests suitable locations for trees and shrubs.
  • Requisitions, controls, and issues grounds keeping supplies.
  • May apply pesticides.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency. Related experience or ability to learn grounds maintenance work; experience in construction preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of maintenance equipment and operations.
  • Knowledge of law care equipment and its operations.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in the use of various types of equipment used in the performance of essential job functions.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Georgia class C Driver's license.
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS
239 day work year (12 month position); eight (8) hours per day.
Salary Range:
Grade 107, Hourly $15.21 - $16.52 (placement on the salary schedule is based on years of allowed related experience). The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For External Candidates, the top salary is not a potential starting salary. Excellent benefits package: includes health insurance; dental and life insurance; employee assistance program; annual, personal and sick leave; membership in Public School Employees' Retirement System.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day, performing heavy manual labor; lift and carry twenty (20) to thirty (30) pounds on occasion, and up to sixty (60) pounds infrequently; push or pull same amounts frequently. Job also requires frequent bending and stooping. The job is performed outside the majority of the day, in all types of weather conditions.
