Responsibilities include physical labor for the duties associated with the maintenance of the facilities and grounds that consists of mowing grass, watering vegetation and trees, waste and rubbish pickup, fencing, snow removal, basin washing, painting and tree trimming. The Grounds worker must utilize power tools such as lawn mowers and tractors, as well as hand tools. Applicant will need to be able to work in the outdoors and/or in confined spaces under all weather conditions. Applicant must have a good driving record, able to operate all department vehicles (Automatic and Standard Transmission). High school diploma or equivalent is required. JOB DESCRIPTION

Facilities and Grounds Foreman Definition:
A Facilities and Grounds Worker performs labor duties associated with the maintenance of the facilities and grounds that consists of mowing grass, watering vegetation and trees, waste and rubbish pickup, fencing, snow removal, basin washing, painting and tree trimming.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Utilize tools and machinery as required, mow lawns, trim trees, clean gutters, rake leaves, cut brush, seed, and water lawns. Pick up and dispose of trash, cuttings, trimmings, and leaves, as necessary. 2. Maintain and repair all Water Works structures using basic carpentry, plumbing and mechanical skills. Install and repair fencing. Operate tractors, front-end loaders, backhoe, boom, and dump trucks as required. Utilize various hand and power tools. 3. Using vehicles equipped with snowplow attachment, motorized equipment and hand tools remove snow and ice from driveways and walkways. Distribute sand and ice melt chemicals as required. 4. Prepare surfaces, including sand blasting, and apply protective coatings to all Water Works buildings, structures and machinery as required. 5. Other duties may be assigned, as necessary. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Employee will have no condition preventing performance of heavy and demanding physical labor outdoors and/or confined spaces under all weather conditions. 2. Must be able to work with little or no direct supervision translating general direction or guidance from the supervisor into a finished work product. 3. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License usable in Iowa and be insurable by employer's insurance company. 4. Must be able to read and write English and keep accurate, legible records of work performed and actions taken. 5. Must have knowledge and skill to safely operate vehicles, tractors, front-end loaders, boom and dump trucks, grading and excavating equipment. 6. Must be skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools, concrete mixers, pumps, lawn mowers, pipe cutting and threading machines, drill press and soil compactors. 7. Must possess working knowledge of the construction trades. 8. Must be able to work overtime and as called to respond to emergencies or snow and ice removal requirements. 9. Must be able to understand English and be able to communicate in English.
Required Experience and Training:
1. High School degree or equivalent. 2. This is an entry- level position.
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be sighted. 2. Must be able to hear normal conversation. 3. Must be able to use standard touch-tone telephone. 4. Must be able to walk over uneven terrain under all weather conditions. 5. Must be able to climb interior and exterior stairs. 6. Must be able to climb a ladder and ladder rungs in a pit. 7. Must be able to squat down and/or bend over in non-standard locations. 8. Must be able to crawl into and out of crawl spaces under houses and buildings. 9. Must be able to lift 75 pounds into and out of truck bed. 10. Must be able to use self-contained breathing apparatus and enter, exit, and work in confined spaces as defined by
OSHA. 11.
Must have manual dexterity sufficient to thread small crew, bolts, nuts, and appurtenances.
