We provide garden and landscaping services to businesses and residences in the Des Moines and Ames areas. We do not mow lawns or offer chemical applications. As a Gardener on our team, you will be responsible for and/or assist with plant installations, regular plant and garden bed maintenance, and will use common garden tools to create and maintain carefully manicured outdoor spaces. We are especially interested in candidates with prior experience in landscape maintenance, ground maintenance, and gardening techniques. DIY experience counts! We also offer interior houseplant services, so ideal candidates will have varied plant knowledge and willingness to learn more. Duties and Responsibilities Work outdoors in all weather conditions, maintaining energy and pace along with the team. Previous experience or interest in learning how to install light hardscaping such as stone garden borders, pathways and patios. Pull weeds and identify weeds from garden plants, ensuring garden beds are free of unwanted vegetation. Water plants, apply mulch, and remove/add rock or landscape stone. Plant garden beds or containers with knowledge of plants' needs for sunlight and water as compared to client maintenance needs. Detail-oriented and careful — treat the client's yard as if it were your own. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored, and maintained. Collaborate with teammates and management to effectively communicate project progress and keep on or ahead of schedule. Communication is paramount as we often work on multiple sites and projects daily. Requirements and Qualifications A valid driver's license and clean driving record. Reliable transportation to and from work. Able to lift upwards of 50 pounds and bend, lift, and stand for extended periods while maintaining a swift pace. Familiarity with common landscaping equipment and garden practices. Good understanding and knowledge of garden plants, shrubs, and trees. Houseplant knowledge is helpful but not required. Strong communication skills to collaborate with teammates and leadership on project progress, concerns, schedule changes, and other points to ensure a positive, efficient work environment. Prior experience in horticulture or gardening preferred — DIY gardeners are welcome to apply! Reliable and self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills. Works well independently as well as in a team environment. Schedule Peak Season (April - October): 12-16 hours per week, typically spread over 2-3 days. Typical shifts run 7:30am-3pm. Specific days scheduled week-to-week based on client needs and weather. Off-Season (November - March): 5-10 hours per week. Schedule varies based on available work. Occasional weekend availability helpful for weather makeup days. Company vehicle is provided from West Des Moines for travel to job sites in the Des Moines and Ames areas.
