Seasonal Invasive Technician
LOCATION
Lafayette Parks and Recreation;
Maintenance Division HOURS:
M-F 7:00am - 3:00pm Full-time; Days, evenings, weekends and some holidays may be required.
SALARY:
$20.00-$21.00 per hour Description Incumbent serves as Seasonal Invasive Technician for the Parks and Recreation Department. Incumbent is responsible for the seasonal maintenance and herbicide applications along trails, parks, grounds, facilities and properties for the City of Lafayette. Performs general maintenance of assigned parks and grounds such as removal and herbicide treatment of invasive species along trails, within "no mow" areas and various parks. Operate all equipment in the Department, including but not limited to UTV, sprayers, chainsaw, brush cutters, other hand tools and motorized equipment. Keep Department equipment, tools, and vehicles clean and well-maintained. Assist with organization and coordination of volunteer workdays.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED preferred. Education or experience, or both, in grounds maintenance preferred. Must be at least 18 years old. Coursework or experience in ecology, natural resource management, dendrology or related field is preferred. Indiana State Chemist core pesticide applicator certificate or the ability to acquire one required. (Certification cost covered by Lafayette Parks & Recreation). Certification or ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid preferred. Incumbent should have strong communication skills and be responsible, self-motivated, and dependable. Knowledge of customer service and public relations skills is desirable. Incumbent must be able to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons. Ability to follow and ensure compliance with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules including but not limited to attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct. Ability to operate all equipment in the Department including but not limited to various excavation tools, hand tools, and other motorized equipment is desirable. A positive professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude is required, and applicant must work harmoniously with all contacts in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
