Operates heavy and specialized equipment used in public works construction and maintenance activities including road grader, snowplow with blade, dump truck, street sweeper, excavator, backhoe and other equipment necessary for utilities and street related construction and maintenance. 2. Perform complex street, utility, drainage and infrastructure construction and repair projects which require labor intensive work involving lifting, pushing/pulling, shoveling, climbing, kneeling and bending. 3. Operates equipment for excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, paving, site restoration and other related construction and maintenance activities. 4. Required to frequently climb in and out of equipment and provide physical labor. Due to the nature of the equipment, the operator will be subjected to constant movement, and adverse weather conditions including excessive heat, excessive cold, rain, sleet, snow and icy conditions. 5. Assists with planning street related work activities, including maintaining street work inventory, materials inventory, and coordinating materials, equipment and crew. Plans daily work activities, leads and responsible for assigned crew, oversees progress while working alongside assigned crew. 6. Provides technical guidance and training to Equipment Operators and other assigned personnel. 7. Performs and oversees the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Install, turn on, turn off, repair water meter and meter components independently. Perform sewer cleanouts and repairs. 8. Performs snow and ice removal operations as scheduled. Operate dump truck with plow attachment. Hand shovel and operate snow blowers to clear parking lots, sidewalks, city facilities and other locations as assigned. Load and unload salt and sand spreaders (at the end of the day.) 9. Inspects equipment before and after use and reports maintenance needs. 10. Performs routine maintenance, cleaning of equipment, and minor repairs on assigned equipment which includes greasing machinery after each usage. 11. Assists with traffic control by setting up and monitoring work zone safety devices. Load, transport, set, relocate, remove barricades, signage and street cones. 12. Ability to complete daily water and wastewater rounds, lift stations inspections and water sampling. 13. Perform routine street maintenance including grading gravel roads and ditches, operating street sweeper, potholing and crack sealing, mowing ditches 14. Locate and mark city utilities using GPS, signal transmitter, receivers, and flags. 15. Responds to emergency callouts and after-hours service requests and complete minor repairs independently. 16. Maintains work records, materials inventory, fleet records, work orders, and completes required documentation. 17. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and safety standards. 18. Operates equipment, hand tools, mowers, blowers, weed eaters, power tools, and other job-related equipment safely. 19. Scan, file, retrieve, maintain, transfer, store, archive and destroy department's physical and electronic files in accordance with department record retention policy and relevant laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, front loader trucks, dump trucks, or similar machinery in a construction or civil infrastructure setting Knowledge of construction site safety procedures and adherence to FMCSA regulations for commercial truck driving when applicable Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks safely over extended periods Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic issues with power tools and heavy machinery Strong understanding of road construction techniques including paving, grading, highway maintenance, and traffic control measures Outdoor work experience in various weather conditions with a focus on safety protocol adherence Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding techniques, and basic mechanical repairs Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; Class B with air brake endorsement commercial driver's license (CDL) mandatory. Construction or roadwork experience is highly desirable Must live within 30 minutes of Bel AIre, or move within 60 days.
