Job Description

This position is responsible for maintenance of grounds, flower beds, shrubs and trees: assists with maintenance of equipment, department facilities and improvements. Reports to and receives direction from the Golf Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent. Performs mowing, trimming, mulching, seeding, weeding, planting, spraying and fertilizing plants, grass, flowers and shrubs. Recommends plant, shrubs, and trees for planting. Performs routine service and minor repairs on mechanical equipment to include mowers, common hand and power tools, small electrical equipment, department facilities and improvements. Installs, repairs and maintains sprinkler operation for all department grounds. Monitors and cleans trash and rubbish from grounds. Performs work in a safe and proper way in compliance with city safety procedures and policies. Performs other related duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of plants, shrubs, trees, grasses, etc. used in turf management. Knowledge of irrigation system operations. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures. Skill in the routine use of hand and power tools. Ability to perform physical activities in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift zero to 75 pounds. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate with city employees and the general public.
Education, Certification and Experience:
Valid Kansas driver's license or other form of personal identification required.
Environment:
Work is performed in all types of weather. Majority of work is performed outdoors. Conditions include extreme, moderate and temperate cold and heat, snow, ice, fog, rain, sleet, hail, high and gusting winds, dry and humid conditions.
Surfaces:
Grass, dirt, sand, gravel, asphalt, concrete and mud.
Physical Characteristics:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., kneel, reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, sit, stand, run, walk, see, hear, drive and write.
