Job Description

WaterOne is searching for talented, motivated, and capable interns to join our summer Grounds Maintenance Internship. This team works together to assist in maintaining the appearance of WaterOne's varieties of grounds and properties throughout our 272 square mile service area. Compensation for this position is $17/hr. WaterOne's summer internship program runs from May 17, 2027 until August 6, 2027. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Performs lawn seeding, sodding, mowing, power raking and trimming of hedges, shrubs and trees. Applies fertilizers, insect sprays and weed control sprays. Inspects and cleans up grounds before mowing to prevent injury or property damage from debris or hidden objects. Sharpens mower blades and performs routine maintenance on lawn equipment. Cuts down dead trees and keeps grounds cleared of tree limbs and trash. Repairs fences, broken windows and does other needed maintenance work as instructed. Performs painting or staining of walls, floors, trim, doors, handrails, pipes, equipment, and other items.

Inspects equipment such as mowers, tractors and fertilizer machines to ensure they are in proper working order. Performs all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements. Performs other job duties as assigned. Required Education, Skills, and Experience High school diploma or GED required AND current enrollment in college, university or vocational program for fall classes.

Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Possess a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards. Get along well with WaterOne personnel and others. Follow instructions properly.

Ability to work safely with tractors, mowers, and other equipment. Knowledgeable in proper confined space entry and the safe handling of hazardous chemicals. Experience with or can learn to apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.

Must commit to 12-13 week duration of the summer internship from May 17th until August 6th.

Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to occasionally position self to perform grounds maintenance activities and be able to work in outdoor weather conditions. The employee must be able to ascend and descend ladders occasionally. The employee must meet qualifications for using air purifying and air supplied respiratory protection.
