Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Shepherd's helper to help manage and care for the vegetation on a solar site which includes caring for a flock of sheep and mowing grass. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal husbandry and possess the skills necessary to ensure the health and safety of the flock and will also need to be familiar with zero turn mowers and string trimmers. This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to animal welfare. Responsibilities Oversee the daily care of sheep, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health. Maintain minimum and maximum grass heights through the use of sheep, mowers, and string trimmers Implement and maintain proper grazing practices to ensure sustainable pasture management. Identify signs of illness or distress in sheep and take appropriate action or seek veterinary assistance. Maintain fencing, shelters, and other facilities to ensure a safe environment for the flock. Work collaboratively with other farm staff to ensure overall farm operations run smoothly. Educate visitors or new staff about sheep care practices as needed. Requirements Previous experience in animal husbandry or farming is preferred but not required. Experience mowing with a zero turn mower and a tractor and bush hog. Strong knowledge of sheep behavior and health management practices is a plus. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Physical fitness to perform tasks such as lifting, walking long distances, and working outdoors in varying conditions. Excellent observation skills to detect any changes in the flock's behavior or health. A valid driver's license may be required for transportation purposes. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends if necessary. This Shepherd's helper position offers an opportunity to work closely with animals while contributing to sustainable farming practices. Our 2 main objectives are animal welfare and keeping the grass height within compliance.
