Tidy Gardens | Experienced Fine Gardener — 2027 Season Braintree, MA — Serving Hingham & the South Shore We're looking ahead to the 2027 gardening season and are excited to add an experienced gardener to the Tidy Gardens team! We're a small, professional gardening company specializing in detailed residential garden care using quiet, ecological practices. We work without chemical herbicides or gas-powered equipment and maintain established gardens with an emphasis on plant health, thoughtful horticulture, and exceptionally high-quality work. Our Experienced Fine Gardener position is for an established gardening or horticulture professional who already possesses the practical skills and judgment required to care for residential gardens with a high degree of independence. The Role The Experienced Fine Gardener is responsible for maintaining established ornamental gardens to a high horticultural standard. Unlike our apprenticeship-level positions, this role assumes a strong existing foundation in professional garden care. You'll receive onboarding to Tidy Gardens' properties, systems, client preferences, ecological practices, and quality standards, but candidates should already possess significant practical horticultural knowledge. We're looking for someone who can walk through an established garden, recognize what needs attention, prioritize the work, make sound routine horticultural decisions, and carry the work through to a polished finished result. What You'll Be Doing Fine pruning ornamental shrubs and small trees Detailed hand-weeding and garden bed maintenance Skilled deadheading and seasonal perennial care Maintaining and shaping annual container plantings Planting and maintaining ornamental and vegetable gardens Monitoring plant health and recognizing signs of pests, disease, watering issues, and environmental stress Performing appropriate ecological plant-care treatments Identifying a broad range of ornamental plants and weeds Making informed decisions about pruning, plant care, and seasonal maintenance Recognizing garden needs that may not be specifically listed in property notes Assessing and prioritizing work across established properties Maintaining residential properties independently Communicating observations and concerns about plant health and property conditions Maintaining Tidy Gardens' standards for quality and finished presentation Who This Is For This role is a strong fit for an experienced gardener who: Has strong horticultural knowledge and practical field experience Has developed a trained eye for what an established garden needs Understands proper pruning practices and plant care Takes pride in precise, thoughtful work Can work efficiently without sacrificing quality Makes sound routine horticultural decisions independently Notices problems without needing them specifically pointed out Is organized, observant, and self-directed Communicates clearly and professionally Enjoys fine residential gardening rather than traditional landscaping Experience & Skills Strong candidates should have: Multiple seasons of professional gardening, horticulture, estate gardening, or comparable hands-on experience Strong ornamental plant and weed identification skills Demonstrated fine-pruning knowledge and proper pruning technique Experience caring for perennials, flowering shrubs, ornamental trees, annuals, and containers Ability to recognize common plant-health problems and environmental stress Strong understanding of seasonal garden maintenance Proper and confident use of hand tools and pruning tools Ability to assess, prioritize, and complete work independently High attention to detail and consistently strong finished results Experience maintaining fine or high-end residential gardens is strongly preferred. Onboarding & Continued Development Experienced Fine Gardeners receive hands-on onboarding to learn Tidy Gardens' individual properties, client preferences, systems, ecological practices, and quality standards. We believe good gardeners continue learning throughout their careers. Feedback, collaboration, and continued horticultural development are part of the work at every level. However, this position sits beyond our Fine Gardening Apprenticeship Program and assumes an established foundation of professional gardening knowledge and practical skill. Physical Requirements Able to perform sustained physical outdoor work throughout the workday Comfortable bending, kneeling, squatting, and working at ground level Able to lift approximately 40-50 lbs Comfortable working outdoors in typical seasonal weather Able to travel independently between job sites Requirements Reliable and punctual Valid driver's license and dependable transportation Professional and respectful demeanor at client properties Strong independent work habits Reliable weekday availability
Schedule Seasonal:
