Custodian & Groundskeeper Principal Functions:
Performs a full range of custodial and groundskeeping work in order to maintain all church facilities in a clean and presentable condition for church and community functions under the direction of the Director of Maintenance & Facilities. This includes cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, trash removal, room setup for various events/meetings/services, watering vegetation, weed eating, applying lawn chemicals, trimming bushes/trees, removing debris, and keeping building grounds in orderly appearance.
Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to:
- Check the building use forms for room set-up and clean-ups needed
- Clean and sanitize restrooms
- Stock restrooms as required
- Setup and cleanup for regularly scheduled events, meetings, and services
- Unlock and lock doors for visitors and observe basic security standards
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip/refinish floors
- Clean and maintain rooms, hallways, lobbies, stairways, and classrooms
- Empty and clean waste receptacles; transport trash and waste to disposal area
- Setup and cleanup for special events, weddings and funerals
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment; dust and clean furnishing, countertop surfaces and equipment
- Water landscaping and vegetation as needed
- Use and maintain weed eater, push lawn mower, chain saw, hedge trimmer, leaf blower and other lawn equipment
- Safely handle and apply lawn treatment chemicals for the maintaining of vegetation and preventing of weeds
- Clean up trimmings from tending to landscaping and removal of other trash/debris from building grounds
- Power wash sidewalks
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance & Facilities Requirements -
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Requires knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in a full range of custodial and groundskeeping work
- Requires capacity and willingness to learn either directly or indirectly how to complete tasks and to continue education to meet changes as they occur
- Requires ability to keep basic records
- Requires ability to work a varied schedule
- Requires ability to know and understand operations and observe safety rules
- Requires ability to follow directions and take responsibility for tasks
- Requires sufficient good health to discharge duties properly
- Requires a valid Missouri Driver's license and no moving violations or accidents
- Requires ability to lift, walk, stand and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time
- Requires passing criminal, financial and sexual misconduct background checks
- Requires passing of drug test
- Requires adhering to the code-of-ethics of the church as stated in its constitution and bylaws and employee handbook
Working Relationships:
- A mature Christian character and a service-oriented approach that recognizes facilities as a ministry-support function.
- The Custodian works directly under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance & Facilities.
Job Classification:
- The position is considered a non-exempt full-time position.
