Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. Job Summary/Scope Maintains athletic fields and facilities. Operates light to medium machinery in the maintenance of the parks and parkways. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares, mows, trims, and maintains fields and grounds.
• Operates tractors with hydraulic lifts, arm reach mowers or other attached accessories.
• Operates such equipment as bobcat with all attachments; backhoe, highloader and mowers.
• Removes snow and ice from park facilities. Trims trees and hauls trash and debris to the landfill.
• Supervises prison work release inmates occasionally. Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Helps in the general maintenance of the park system.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

• Skills in effective operation of necessary equipment.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements associated with equipment operation.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.

Material and Equipment Directly Used Operates a variety of equipment used in routine maintenance, including mowers, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required. Working Environment/Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires lifting, frequently requires walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
