Job Overview Join our dynamic Grounds Crew team and play a vital role in maintaining the serenity of our cemetery spaces. At the direction of the Cemetery Sexton & Director of Facilities, Maintenance, Grounds, assists in the ground maintenance for Mount Olivet Cemetery, Calvary Cemetery, Bishop's residence, Pastoral Center, and Stites complex including but not limited to excavating of graves, burial functions (installing vaults, preparing niches for inurnments etc.), sodding, seeding, fertilizing, monument and marker setting, moving earth, general lawn care, snow removal, general cemetery and site cleanup.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Grounds Maintenance & Landscaping Perform routine turf care including mowing, trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, and reseeding as needed. Maintain flowerbeds, memorial gardens, and seasonal plantings by planting, mulching, watering, weeding, and removing dead vegetation. Prune, trim, and maintain trees, shrubs, hedges, and ornamental plants to ensure healthy growth and safe conditions. Remove natural debris such as leaves, branches, and dead foliage to maintain a clean, dignified environment. Perform irrigation system checks, adjust watering schedules, and repair minor issues with irrigation lines and fixtures. Clear vegetation from around headstones, monuments, and walkways to enhance visibility and accessibility. Maintain gravel areas, pathways, and drives through raking, leveling, and debris removal. Install or repair sod, restore disturbed turf areas, and maintain soil grading around burial plots and commonly used areas. Burial Site Support Assist in preparing burial areas by clearing, leveling, and restoring turf around gravesites. Support backfilling processes and ensure grounds are restored after burial services. Maintain respectful conditions during and after interment preparations. Equipment Operation & Care Safely operate landscaping and ground equipment including mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, tractors, and small utility vehicles. Conduct pre‑use inspections and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns. Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Safety Protocols & Emergency Procedures:

General Worksite Safety Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and closed toe shoes. Maintain awareness of surroundings, especially near headstones, open graves, uneven ground, and equipment operators. Ensure all tools and materials are stored safely to prevent trip hazards and equipment accidents. Chemical & Environmental Safety Handle fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with product labels, safety data sheets (SDS), and regulatory guidelines. Store chemicals safely and secure them when not in use. Follow environmentally responsible landscaping practices, including water conservation and proper disposal of debris. Equipment & Machinery Safety Operate power equipment only after receiving appropriate training. Follow lockout/tagout procedures when working with malfunctioning equipment. Maintain safe distances from other workers and visitors when operating machinery. Shut down equipment during visitor interactions, services, or when pedestrians are nearby. Hazard Identification & Mitigation Identify and report hazardous conditions such as unstable trees, damaged irrigation lines, uneven pathways, or sunken graves. Block off or secure unsafe areas until hazards can be corrected. Remove or address immediate hazards such as fallen branches or obstructed walkways. Emergency Response Duties Assist in responding to on‑site emergencies involving weather, accidents, or structural hazards. Follow emergency weather protocols for storms, high winds, snow, ice, or lightning by securing areas and suspending unsafe activities. Provide basic first aid within the scope of training and immediately notify supervisors or emergency services when needed. Maintain situational awareness during funeral services and assist in clearing or securing areas to ensure visitor safety. Incident Reporting Complete written documentation for accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, property damage, or unusual incidents. Participate in required safety drills, meetings, and training updates.

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED Valid Montana driver's license (subject to a driving history review for insurance purposes) 6 months of ground keeping or landscaping required. Safe Environment Background Check & Training completed and on an ongoing basis as required. 2.

Knowledge, Ability, and Skill:

Working knowledge of techniques of landscaping and snow removal. Ability to perform light to heavy physical duties; to work independently in the performance of routine duties; to lift heavy objects and perform strenuous work continuously under varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate backhoe/earth moving equipment, lawn/garden and snow removal equipment. Skilled operation of all tools and equipment listed.

Work Environment:

Work is performed outdoors/indoors with exposure to temperature extremes and inclement weather. Incumbents are exposed to heavy equipment. Most of the work is usually performed outside, using loud equipment. Has regular contact with the public; contact is in person, by phone and in writing and generally involves the exchange of information. Errors in judgment may result in time loss and delay; cause damage to building and or equipment, result in serious personal injury and injury to others, and have financial and/or legal repercussions. Employees must work onsite Saturday - Friday with a variable part-time or full-time schedule.

Physical Requirements :

While performing the duties of this job outside, the employee is often required to hear, smell, stand, walk, bend/stoop, lift, and drive motorized equipment. The work requires strenuous physical exertion including the lifting and/or moving of objects of up to 50 pounds and often required to lift and/or move up to100 pounds. Requires good vision and the application of significant manual dexterity in combination with eye-hand coordination to use hand/power tools and operate equipment.

Other Considerations :

• Incumbents can expect an evaluation in the first six months of employment by their supervisor with an annual evaluation thereafter.

• Salary considerations will be commensurate with education and experience.

Pay:

$15.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
