Job Description Overview Join Sussex Construction's growing landscaping team as a Lead Landscaper and take a leadership role in creating, maintaining, and enhancing exceptional outdoor spaces. The Lead Landscaper is responsible for overseeing daily landscaping operations, guiding crew members, ensuring quality workmanship, and completing projects safely, efficiently, and to customer expectations. This position is ideal for an experienced landscaping professional who takes pride in their work, enjoys mentoring others, and has the knowledge and skills to manage a variety of landscape installation, maintenance, and seasonal property care projects. From lawn care and irrigation to planting, hardscape installation, snow removal, and winter operations, the Lead Landscaper plays a key role in maintaining beautiful, safe, and functional properties year-round. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise daily landscaping crews, providing direction, training, and support to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely
  • Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and ensure team members follow company standards for quality, safety, and productivity
  • Perform advanced lawn care services including mowing, edging, fertilizing, aeration, overseeding, and turf maintenance
  • Oversee landscape installations including planting, grading, mulching, decorative rock, retaining features, patios, walkways, and outdoor living spaces
  • Maintain landscape features including flower beds, shrubs, trees, irrigation systems, and hardscape elements
  • Read and interpret landscape plans, project layouts, and installation instructions
  • Train team members on proper landscaping techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures
  • Safely operate and oversee the use of hand tools, power tools, mowers, trimmers, skid steers, excavators, loaders, snowplows, and other landscaping equipment
  • Perform tree care activities including pruning, trimming, planting, removal, and general maintenance using proper techniques
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain irrigation systems and watering solutions
  • Perform seasonal winter services including snowplowing, snow removal, sidewalk shoveling, ice control, salting, and maintaining safe walkways and parking areas
  • Operate snow removal equipment safely and efficiently during winter weather conditions
  • Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snow and ice removal needs
  • Assist with seasonal equipment preparation, maintenance, and storage
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites throughout all projects and seasons
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, customers, and team members regarding project updates and job site needs
  • Promote a positive team environment focused on reliability, craftsmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional landscaping experience preferred, with demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience leading or mentoring landscaping crews preferred
  • Strong knowledge of lawn care, horticulture, landscape installation, and property maintenance practices
  • Experience with snow removal operations including snowplowing, shoveling, ice control, and winter property maintenance
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping and snow removal equipment including mowers, trimmers, excavators, skid steers, loaders, and snowplows
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, drainage, grading, planting, and landscape construction techniques
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in the field
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear direction to team members
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and winter conditions
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, shoveling, digging, and equipment operation

$28.00 - $35.00 per year
