Job Description

JOB About us: For over 100 years, Burlington has provided and maintained Pine Hill, Brown's Chapel, Northlawn, and Rest Haven Cemeteries, offering traditional grave sites and a Columbarium at Pine Hill for cremation burials. The City's Cemetery and Grounds Division ensures perpetual care and maintenance of these tranquil and aesthetic settings.
What you will do:
This role involves routine manual work to ensure safe and appealing city structures, facilities, and grounds for public use. Responsibilities include landscaping, groundskeeping, park maintenance, leaf collection, equipment upkeep, traffic direction, and other labor-intensive tasks. Employees work independently across various sites and report to the Grounds Crew Leader, with performance evaluated based on safety, operations, and feedback. This position requires less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Landscape Work:
Operate riding and push mowers, trim and prune trees and shrubs, and handle tree removal.
Trash Removal:
Preforms routine trash and litter removal at City facilities and cemeteries.
Winter Maintenance:
Shovel snow from sidewalks and spread ice-melting materials for safe walkways.
Additional Duties:
Perform various general maintenance tasks as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work in this class is medium work, requiring exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This employee must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned. Both inside and outside environmental conditions exist. Employee is subject to hazards including mechanical equipment and atmospheric conditions due to fumes, odors and dusts.
