Job Description
Performs responsible semiskilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the electric overhead and underground distribution system; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Assisting in installing, maintaining and repairing electric overhead and underground systems; laying pipe, hanging transformers, driving trucks. Installs transformers; repairs street lights; Works closely with line technicians daily; Stocks truck with materials needed for duties; Assists in installation of underground primary and secondary wires; Removes trees and brush from work area; use of chainsaw; Drive trucks frames poles; installs hardware and pulls service wires from ladder; Required to be on stand-by, or; work emergency calls; Performs related tasks as required. Performs daily and monthly reports on equipment. Some knowledge of the procedures, practices, equipment, materials and tools used in the installation and maintenance of electric lines; some knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the work and the safety precautions to be taken; ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers; skill in the use and care of tools; ability to perform manual work and work under adverse weather conditions.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and some experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
