FACILITIES & GROUNDSKEEPER
Lake Norman Marina | Sherrills Ford, North Carolina Full-time | Year-round | Hands-on property maintenance The Opportunity Lake Norman Marina is hiring a full-time Facilities & Groundskeeper to take primary responsibility for the year-round appearance, maintenance, and care of our property. This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in keeping lawns, landscaping, and outdoor facilities clean, attractive, safe, and well maintained. The right person will work independently, establish an effective maintenance routine, identify needs before they become problems, and help ensure the marina makes an excellent impression on customers, members, and guests. What You Will Own
  • Develop and carry out a seasonal schedule for mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, fertilization, weed control, irrigation, leaf removal, and other recurring grounds work.
  • Mow and maintain lawns; trim shrubs and trees; edge beds and walkways; remove weeds, leaves, litter, and debris; and keep landscaped areas neat and healthy.
  • Inspect, adjust, and perform basic repairs to irrigation systems to support effective water distribution and healthy plant growth.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with product labels, applicable regulations, and company safety procedures; obtain and maintain any credentials required for the work performed.
  • Maintain parking areas, walkways, fences, signs, drainage areas, and other exterior property features, including pressure washing and storm cleanup as needed.
  • Complete minor exterior and property repairs within your skill level and promptly report conditions requiring specialized service.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, hand tools, and other equipment; perform basic repairs or coordinate service when needed.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of tools, chemicals, replacement parts, and landscaping supplies and communicate purchasing needs in advance.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors when licensed, specialized, or large-scale work is required and verify that completed work meets marina standards.
  • Support property preparation for special events, peak boating periods, and other operational needs.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain clean, secure, and organized work and storage areas. What We Are Looking For
  • Prior experience in professional lawn care, landscaping, grounds maintenance, property maintenance, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency with commercial lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, hand tools, and related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of plant care, pruning, fertilization, weed management, and seasonal landscape maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and the ability to diagnose and complete minor repairs.
  • Strong judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize work without constant supervision.
  • A consistent record of safe work practices and proper handling of equipment and landscaping products.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining a commercial, hospitality, marina, golf, resort, or similarly high-visibility property.
  • Experience with pesticide application, irrigation repair, small-engine maintenance, hardscaping, or minor facility repairs.
  • Current pesticide-applicator or other relevant professional credentials, where applicable. Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in heat, cold, rain, and other changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and safely lift or carry up to 50 pounds during the workday.
  • Ability to safely operate powered equipment and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Dependable attendance and flexibility to respond to weather, seasonal demands, special events, and urgent property needs.
