) Competency Level Journey Home Department Landscaping - 35211 Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Landscape Services Section is a part of the Physical Plant Business Affairs Section of the University. This unit provides support for the maintenance and operations of all University grounds. Location of Workplace Main UNCW Campus Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Grounds Worker of the Landscape Services Department performs semi-skilled grounds management. Daily duties include performing various functions such as edging, pruning, mowing, new landscaping and irrigation repair. The general manicuring of all University properties, housing areas, parking lot maintenance, trash pick-up, and other associated duties as determined by supervisor or administration. This position may install equipment related to landscape functions, may operate backhoe, sprayers, and other skilled equipment as directed. This position will be responsible for the proper care and storage of equipment. This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice, or debris. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred education, professional skills and experience A working knowledge of landscape maintenance and the ability to operate large and small equipment. Good verbal communication skills to effectively communicate information to coworkers as well as provide information to the general public in a courteous and informed manner. An understanding of the safe and proper handling of equipment and machinery associated with landscape functions. Required Certifications or licensure Valid NC Drivers' License or the ability to obtain within 30 days.
