Job Description
Incumbents in this position are responsible for participating in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the water and wastewater system. This position is assigned to pay grade G13. Installs water meters; replaces meter boxes and lids. Turns water service on and off. Installs and repairs water and wastewater lines and mains. Locates, inspects, and cleans sewer manholes. Performs confined space entry procedures. Maintains the right-of-ways to ensure pipelines and manholes are free of debris. Installs and repairs fire hydrants. Operates a heavy truck to perform construction work. Performs cleaning of blocked sewer pipes. Replaces concrete sidewalks. Repairs water leaks. Establishes safe work zones, including traffic control devices; flags traffic as needed. Repairs landscaping. Responds to emergency situations. Trains, directs, and supervises the work of assigned personnel. Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment. Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory. Operates job related tools and equipment including Vactor trucks, trailers, and front end loaders. Communicates with the public. Performs other related job duties as assigned. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. High school diploma or GED. One (1) year of collections equipment operation work experience or any related work field. NC Grade 1 Collections System Operator certification is required. NC Grade 2 Collections System Operator certification preferred. Requires a valid State of North Carolina Class B CDL driver's license. NC Class B CDL driver's license with Tanker and HazMat endorsement preferred. This position will be placed on an On-Call rotation that requires a response within 30 minutes of notification. X Use or repair heavy or complex machinery (HVAC systems, construction equipment, water plants).
