The Sexton keeps All Saints' Church's buildings and grounds orderly and in good repair; performs basic preventative maintenance and repairs; sets up gathering spaces for use as needed; and works with the Environmental Services staff to maintain safety and cleanliness. The Sexton also keeps the Rector, Office Manager, and/or Senior Warden and Junior Warden advised of dangers or concerns about the condition and maintenance of buildings and grounds. The Sexton represents All Saints' Church to visitors, volunteers, contractors, and community partners with a spirit of respect and cooperation. Weekly tasks a. Set up and breakdown tables and chairs for events and worship services in Reynolds Hall, the Old Parish House or stone church as directed by the Rector or Staff. b. Keep all church entrances (inside and outside) clear of debris/litter/leaves/salt. c. Haul all trash to dumpster. d. Monitor the condition of four buildings and the grounds of the church campus, report problems to the Rector. e. Clean and change light fixtures as needed. f. Regularly check and perform weekly maintenance to boilers as appropriate during heating season. g. Serve as a contact for technicians and tradespeople engaged to perform work on the Church property and the Fire Alarm System. h. Monitor for pests (ants, wasps, mice, etc.) and set traps as needed. i. Be on-call for occasional urgent buildings and grounds emergencies. j. Do simple repairs and property upgrades including painting, simple carpentry, plumbing, and landscape maintainance. k. Set and monitor thermostats to appropriate agreed upon temperatures b. Set and monitor timed outdoor flood lights as seasons change b. Assist in taking down and setting up seasonal decorations c. Stack cordwood in the fall and bring wood to Reynolds Hall in fall and winter. d. Prepare the buildings and grounds for seasons, e.g., place snow guards on window wells. e. Assist Church Garden Ministry with seasonal tasks, e.g., trimming shrubs, planting flowers, wrapping and unwrapping burlap on bushes . f. Salt and shovel walks as needed. g. Assist in the preparation of the ground for the burial of ashes during funeral services. Skills and experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and experience -High School diploma or GED, with one to three years related experience. b. Respectful toward others including staff, volunteers, and visitors. c. The candidate for this position must have their own adequate reliable transportation. Access to a truck is helpful but not required. e.
The candidate must be capable of taking initiative while at the same time being responsible and accountable to other staff members with whom he or she works. Physical Demands This position requires a person who can safely and successfully perform all essential job functions and responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to: a. The ability to safely work with hand and power tools such as drills, saws, snowblower. b. The ability to climb steps and ladders as well as to bend, pull and push lawn carts, trash barrels, and remove snow and ice. c. The ability to lift, move and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Hours and compensation This position is for 12 hours per week. Candidates for this position must complete a required background check and complete the required Safe Church online education program. The Sexton reports to the Rector or other staff as designated.
Pay:
$23.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 - 12.0 per week
