Position Summary As a Grounds Maintenance Worker , you will help maintain landscaped grounds and highway rest areas according to contract standards. This position plays an important role in ensuring public areas remain safe, clean, and well-maintained while supporting our mission of providing quality services to the community. What You'll Do Your responsibilities will include: Maintain grounds and rest areas according to contract schedules and quality standards Operate tractors, riding mowers, and other landscaping equipment Mow medians, roadways, shoulders, and landscaped areas Trim grass and vegetation in hard-to-reach areas Maintain desert landscaping and apply weed and pest control treatments Repair and maintain irrigation systems, including Rain Bird valves, sprinkler heads, timers, pipes, wiring, and fittings Dig trenches for irrigation repairs Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, including lubrication and fluid checks Repair and replace cable fencing, posts, and hardware Inspect outdoor areas for hazards and report maintenance needs Follow all safety procedures and properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Assist with rest area repairs and occasional custodial duties Remove snow and ice when necessary Provide courteous assistance to members of the public Complete additional assignments as directed by the supervisor ✅ Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED Experience Minimum of 3 years of experience in: Grounds maintenance Irrigation systems Tractor and mowing equipment operation Required Licenses & Certifications Valid Driver's License Current Weed/Pest Control Applicator License (Required) Background Checks Required Employment is contingent upon successfully completing: General Background Check Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Office of Inspector General (OIG) Exclusions Check New Mexico Department of Health Fingerprinting What Makes You Successful We're looking for someone who: Enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions Can safely operate landscaping equipment including riding mowers, edgers, chainsaws, and blowers Works well independently and as part of a team Has strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Is dependable, flexible, and safety-minded Can communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, and speaking) Can adapt to changing priorities and assignments Why Join Our Team?
