Job Description

Position Title Groundskeeper I Required Application Type Teacher / Admin Salary/Pay Scale $62,589 to $69,040 (per contract) Job Description Southampton Union Free School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Groundskeeper I within the Facilities & Operations Department. The Groundskeeper I is responsible for the maintenance, care, and appearance of all District grounds, athletic fields, landscaped areas, parking lots, sidewalks, and other exterior facilities. Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Grounds Supervisor, the successful candidate will perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance duties to ensure District properties remain safe, attractive, and well maintained throughout the year. Responsibilities Maintain the appearance and safety of District grounds, athletic fields, landscaped areas, parking lots, sidewalks, and other exterior facilities. Mow, trim, edge, fertilize, seed, aerate, water, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas. Plant, cultivate, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and other landscaping materials. Prepare and maintain athletic fields, including lining, dragging, leveling, and repairing playing surfaces. Remove weeds, invasive vegetation, leaves, branches, litter, snow, and ice from District properties. Perform seasonal grounds maintenance, including spring preparation, fall cleanup, and winter snow and ice removal. Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, snowplows, spreaders, aerators, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, trimmers, and other grounds maintenance equipment. Perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on equipment and report mechanical issues requiring repair. Install, maintain, and repair playground equipment, athletic equipment, fencing, signs, benches, site furnishings, irrigation systems, drainage improvements, and other exterior features. Assist with emergency operations during weather events and other District emergencies. Safely handle fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other materials in accordance with applicable regulations and District procedures. Maintain accurate records and report unsafe conditions immediately. Work collaboratively with custodial and maintenance staff as needed. Perform overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-in work as required. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities. Civil Service Title Groundskeeper I Job Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet all qualifications established by the Suffolk County Department of Civil Service.
