Job Description
Position Summary The Greenskeeper I position is an entry-level role responsible for assisting with the daily maintenance and presentation of the golf course. This position works under the direction of the golf course superintendent, assistant superintendent, and supervisory staff to help maintain high-quality playing conditions while learning industry standards, equipment operation, and golf course maintenance practices. This role is ideal for individuals beginning a career in the turfgrass industry or those interested in working outdoors in a team-oriented environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Report to work on time, prepared for daily assignments, and maintain a professional and positive attitude. Learn and develop a basic understanding of golf course maintenance practices, safety procedures, and golf course etiquette. Perform routine mowing operations including walk mowing greens, approaches, and native or fescue areas with attention to detail and consistency. Assist with bunker maintenance including raking, edging, and maintaining clean, playable conditions. Perform hand watering and assist with portable irrigation of turf, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas as directed. Operate small equipment safely and efficiently, including push mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, utility vehicles, and other assigned tools. Assist with golf course set-up including cup changing, tee marker placement, and daily preparation tasks. Maintain cleanliness throughout the property by removing trash, debris, and other materials from the golf course and maintenance areas. Assist with general golf course projects including sod work, landscaping, drainage, detail work, and other assigned tasks. Work safely and follow all departmental operating procedures and equipment guidelines. Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced outdoor environment. Perform duties in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing daily priorities. Qualifications No prior golf course or turfgrass experience required. Willingness to learn and work as part of a team. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions. Ability to perform physical labor including walking, lifting, bending, and repetitive tasks. Interest in golf course maintenance, landscaping, turfgrass management, or outdoor operations is preferred. Work Environment This position requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain. Early morning, weekend, and holiday work may be required depending on seasonal golf course needs.
