Farm & Property Caretaker Hainesport, NJ | Part-Time | Year-Round | 3-4 Days/Week We're looking for a dependable, hands-on person to help care for our family farm, animals and property year-round. This is a hybrid role combining animal care, groundskeeping and general farm/property maintenance. We're looking for one trusted person who can learn the rhythms of the farm, work independently and take pride in keeping both the animals and property well cared for. Responsibilities Animal Care We have sheep, cattle, chickens and geese. You'll follow a straightforward farm-care checklist that may include: Checking animals, feed and water Supplemental feeding of sheep, including grain and alfalfa Checking, cleaning and filling cattle troughs and animal waterers Bringing water to animals during winter when seasonal water lines are shut down Collecting eggs Cleaning the chicken coop and animal areas Caring for the geese and their enclosure Checking gates, fencing and pasture areas Noticing and reporting anything unusual with an animal or its environment Our family handles care on the days you are not working, so this is not a seven-day-a-week position. Grounds & Property Care Mowing, weed-whacking and edging Weeding, mulching and basic pruning Maintaining landscape beds, fence lines and areas around the house and barn Leaf, storm and seasonal cleanup General farm and property cleanup Moving outdoor furniture, supplies, hay, pallets and other materials as needed Helping organize and maintain barn and outdoor areas Assisting with miscellaneous farm and property projects throughout the year The work will change with the seasons — more mowing and landscaping during the warmer months, and more animal care, cleanup and property projects during the winter. Equipment Experience operating farm and landscaping equipment is a major plus. We have a tractor, Kubota side-by-side and quads, and would like someone who can safely operate equipment as needed for tasks such as moving pallets, hay or materials around the property. We do not currently own dedicated mowing equipment. Someone who owns and can bring appropriate mowing equipment would be especially valuable, although we're open to purchasing equipment for the right long-term person. Schedule Approximately 3-4 days per week, year-round, with some flexibility in the specific schedule. When our family travels, we would also like this person to be available when possible to keep an eye on the farm and property, including checking animals, water, feed, gates and the general property while we're away. Who We're Looking For The right person is: Dependable and trustworthy Comfortable around livestock Experienced with outdoor, physical work Able to work independently Observant and proactive — someone who notices what needs attention Comfortable operating equipment and utility vehicles Willing to work outdoors throughout the year Interested in becoming a consistent, long-term part of caring for the farm Experience with farms, livestock, horse properties, landscaping, groundskeeping, estate/property maintenance, nurseries or similar work would all translate well to this position. More than anything, we're looking for someone who will get to know our animals and property and become a trusted go-to person for the farm. Compensation $22-$26/hour depending on experience, with flexibility for someone with significant livestock, equipment or property-maintenance experience and/or their own mowing equipment.
