Job Description

General Description:
The purpose of this job is to maintain county parks' grounds and facilities, county boat landings, clean up roadside trash and illegal dump sites, maintain Forfeit Land Commission properties as assigned, and assist county staff in setting up community events utilizing the stage, sound system, tents, and chairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
  • Clean up roadside trash and illegal dump sites and assist in the collection and documenting of evidence for ordinance and code violations.
  • Operate county vehicles frequently towing trailers.
  • Operate county equipment to include but not limited to the barbara rake system, mowers or small tractors, chainsaws, weeding and edging tools, pressure washers, and other power equipment as assigned.
  • Maintain the grounds of assigned county parks and boat landings through lawn maintenance (grass cutting), vegetation control (clearing brush or spraying brush and under brush maintenance, grass is mowed appropriately for County Parks and buildings and assist with cutting/ boarding up of Forfeited Land Commission properties.
  • Coordinate inspections of playground equipment, park facilities, board walks/landings, walking trails and all physical structures, etc.
  • Check county park grounds for needed maintenance (tables, swings, gates, etc.) and remove all trash and debris.
  • Performs maintenance on lawn mowers and other power equipment to include but not limited to chainsaws, weed-eaters, pressure washers etc. Also, field trouble shoots equipment.
  • Ensures all waterfronts are clean and free from debris.
  • Responsible for attending county training regarding inmate supervision, will direct inmates in facilities maintenance activities and will assist in roadside clean up duties.
  • Inspects walkways and dock for loose boards, repairs if necessary. Notify supervisor of all needed repairs
  • Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned such as but not limited to: o Help secure Forfeited Land Commission & Vacant properties.
o Assist with the set up of stages, tents, and sound systems for events. o Assist in clean-up projects. o Spray weed killer and fertilizer. o Opening and Closing of Parks. o Litter Pick. o Debris Clean up. o Mowing, cutting, and general lawn and brush care o All other general labor duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School diploma or general education degree GED equivalent.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
Physical Demands:
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
