Assistant groundskeeper Ryan Sanders Sports Services - 3.6 Georgetown, TX Job Details 1 hour ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Driver's License Full Job Description The Assistant Head Groundskeeper is responsible for assisting in the daily maintenance, preparation, and management of the college's athletic fields and surrounding grounds. This position works closely with the Head Groundskeeper to ensure all athletic surfaces are maintained in a safe, aesthetically pleasing, and competition-ready condition while supporting practices, games, tournaments, and special events. The Assistant Head Groundskeeper serves as the acting Head Groundskeeper in the absence of the Head Groundskeeper and assists in supervising student workers, seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Athletic Field Maintenance Assist in maintaining baseball, softball, soccer, football, and other athletic playing surfaces. Prepare fields daily for practices, competitions, and special events. Mow, edge, stripe, drag, roll, aerify, seed, fertilize, topdress, and repair athletic fields. Maintain skinned infield areas, warning tracks, bullpens, batting cages, dugouts, and surrounding playing areas. Repair turf damage resulting from practices, games, weather, and heavy field use. Monitor field conditions and recommend maintenance improvements to the Head Groundskeeper. Assist with tarp management before, during, and after inclement weather. Ensure all playing surfaces meet NCAA, conference, and institutional standards for safety and playability. Turf Management Assist in irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairs. Monitor turf health and identify weeds, insects, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies. Assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications in accordance with all state and federal regulations. Maintain accurate application records when required. Assist in developing seasonal turf maintenance programs. Perform overseeding, aerification, verticutting, topdressing, and other cultural practices. Equipment Operation and Maintenance Safely operate and maintain a variety of turf maintenance equipment, including but not limited to: Reel mowers Rotary mowers Tractors Utility vehicles Infield groomers Aerators Spreaders Sprayers Line striping equipment Chainsaws Edgers Blowers String trimmers Landscape equipment Will assist in supervising: Student workers Seasonal employees Interns Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in athletic field maintenance, turf management, landscaping, or a related field. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to safely operate turf maintenance equipment. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and irregular schedules based on athletic events. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Management, or a related field. Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) certification. Experience maintaining collegiate, municipal, or professional athletic facilities.
