23 SUMMARY
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a service position responsible for assisting in the maintenance and beautification of SFA grounds. Performs routine repetitive work in the performance of various physically demanding tasks. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Grounds Foreperson.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have attained an educational level sufficient to read, write, and perform simple calculations. No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Cut weeds and brush with string trimmer; uses power mower to cut grass. Rakes lawns. Trims trees and shrubs. Waters and fertilizes plants and lawns. Performs various outdoor yard maintenance tasks. Loads and unloads trucks. Moves furniture, office equipment, refuse, garbage, and heavy supplies and equipment. Picks up litter on university campus and at off-campus facilities.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May assist with maintaining and installing sprinkler systems and greenhouse equipment. May operate a variety of related equipment. Serves as back up to other departmental staff when assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques and procedures. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to operate standard tools and equipment necessary to perform job duties. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
