POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Parks Manager, the Grounds Maintenance Worker I maintains grounds of parks, facilities, streetscapes and other City properties. Performs basic skill duties including repair and maintenance of irrigation systems and other equipment. Works with others, including volunteers, and community service workers to complete work detail. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Completes grounds maintenance activities in parks, around facilities and in streetscape areas Transports and operates grounds maintenance and other equipment Cuts, trims and edges turf areas Performs turf maintenance such as fertilizing, insecticide and herbicide spraying, aerating Prunes shrubs, deadheads flowers and maintains perennials Plants flowers, trees, shrubs and lays sod Control weeds by hand pulling, spraying or other means Monitors watering and adjusts based on plant health and water conservation goals Rakes, blows and disposes of leaves Cleans up litter and other debris and empties garbage cans Removes snow from City properties Cleans restrooms, pavilions, picnic tables, benches and other facilities and amenities Inspects playgrounds and maintains playground surfaces by cleaning, refiling or raking Cleans sports courts, bleachers, fences and other equipment Removes graffiti from surfaces, using equipment and by hand Assists in maintaining and repairing systems and equipment under the supervision of others Troubleshoots irrigation problems and makes basic repairs Performs basic maintenance such as sharpening, refilling oil and gas, and reloading supplies on power equipment including mowers, trimmers Maintains hand tools and wheelbarrows and keeps track of equipment Assists in tree care duties Prunes, mulches, deep waters and maintains trees under supervision 2 Removes tree stumps and limbs under supervision Works with others to complete tasks as requested Works with and instructs community service workers on duties Works on a team to complete complex or large tasks and projects Works with volunteers to support and complete grounds improvement projects Completes other duties as assigned ______________________________________________________________________________
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

AND CERTIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent Must possess a valid state driver's license or obtain one prior to employment _____________________________________________________________________________________
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in outdoor grounds maintenance Knowledge of tools, equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs Knowledge of computers and basic software, including internet, email, and word-processing Skill in operation of grounds maintenance equipment including mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, snowblowers, UTVs, trucks, trailers, plows and other vehicles Ability to communicate effectively verbally Ability to provide a high standard of customer service to facility users and visitors Ability to work with others and manage conflict Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely Ability to complete forms and orders on a computer Ability to drive a vehicle with a trailer or other attached equipment __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
