Job Description
Center Overview Westminster Child Care Center is a non-profit child development center dedicated to providing quality care to children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Our mission emphasizes inclusivity and community engagement. Summary We are seeking a Building Maintenance professional to join our team at Westminster Child Care Center in Charlottesville. This role is vital in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our children and staff. The ideal candidate will contribute to our mission by ensuring that our facilities are well-maintained and conducive to learning. Smoking/Vaping is not permitted on property. Please apply if you are passionate about creating a nurturing environment for children through your maintenance skills. This is a Monday - Friday position with the hours of 8:30 am - 11:30 am. Candidates will be fingerprinted and must be able to pass a criminal background check. Smoking/Vaping is not permitted on property. You must have a high school degree or equivalent and be able to commute to work daily. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the safety and functionality of the facility. Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance needs. Oversee landscaping and lawn care activities to maintain an inviting outdoor space for children and staff. Manage the playground for the spreading/flipping of mulch and sandbox maintenance. Maintain a safe environment during times of inclement weather, such as ensuring that salt is placed on walkways and entrances. Utilize hand tools and power tools safely for various general maintenance tasks. Collaborate with staff to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations. Assist with daily classroom maintenance and cleaning tasks when asked. This includes brief household tasks and daily emptying of trash cans. Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies needed for building upkeep. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff. Qualifications Proven experience in building maintenance or a related field. You must have a strong work ethic and consider attendance to work a priority. Strong knowledge of landscaping and playground maintenance/upkeep. Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with staff members. A proactive approach to creating relationships with children and the families that we serve.
