Our Grounds Crew team members play an important role in ensuring that our jobs run smoothly by dragging brush, operating chainsaws and chippers, and pruning trees/shrubs from the ground. Essential Functions:
Efficiently move small & large debris from tree work area to chipper, starting with large material first. Help set up job sites, including cones around trucks/sidewalks, positioning vehicles & small equipment, identify safety risks, etc. Determine drag paths & drop zones, move/protect any breakable objects on ground. Work closely with climbers to ensure rigging, equipment, etc. they need is in place and ready to go. Keep track of equipment coming out of trucks and going back in. Buck & move larger wood safely using larger saws. Complete pruning & hedging according to ANSI standards (we can train you) on smaller trees that are reachable from the ground / ladder Follow all of our safety protocols to avoid creating risks for yourself or your crewmates Work respectfully and with a good attitude - be someone that everyone else wants to work with. Work hand-in-hand with crew leader to make sure each job is completed successfully. Maintains equipment as required, including greasing chipper, checking chainsaw oil/fuel, etc. Able to drive chip trucks/chippers, bucket trucks, equipment vans safely in tight areas (we will train you, not required initially). Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in horticulture, forestry, or a related field is a plus. 2+ years of experience in arboriculture, construction,wildland firefighting or field work preferred. Clean and insurable driving record. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols. Good communication skills for interacting with team members and the public. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Basic problem-solving skills and adaptability in dynamic environments. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and working in various weather conditions. Comfort with climbing and working at heights when necessary. Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods during fieldwork.
