Job Description

Job Function:
The Custodial/Groundskeeper serves as one of the maintenance and custodial workers for Green Mountain School. This position exercises considerable independent professional judgement to conduct custodial/grounds keeper functions under the general guidance of the principal and superintendent as well as written district policies and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Performs daily custodial duties in the school's classroom, bathroom, and office spaces. Coordinates work with other custodial staff. Daily custodial duties will include vacuuming carpets, sweeping floors, mopping hard floors, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning student desks, wiping counters and tables, washing windows, emptying garbage cans, refilling paper towel, and soap dispensers, etc.
  • Performs periodic hard floor maintenance including stripping, buffing, and finishing of VCT flooring. Performs cleaning of carpeted spaces at least once per year.
  • Performs grounds-keeping and light maintenance work as needed under the general direction of the Caretaker.
  • Recognizes maintenance needs and is self-directed in making minor repairs as necessary; prioritizes tasks; makes recommendations for major repairs to principal or superintendent.
  • Maintains school grounds including lawns, fields, gardens, and plantings. Duties include mowing, edging, weeding, minor pruning, pressure washing, sweeping, etc.
  • Performs snow removal as needed during the winter season, using compact utility tractor and manual labor; ensures that walkways are deiced as needed for staff and student safety. Snow removal may require flexible shifts, split shifts, and extended hours or overtime.
  • Maintains the school workshop/bus barn in a safe and organized manner; organizes storage of extra furniture and other supplies for effective access and protection of school property.
  • Operation of small tractor for grounds keeping preferred.
  • Maintain inventory of all outbuildings.
  • Assists with minor maintenance and repairs of school buses and school vehicles as needed.
  • Complete a variety of small improvement projects.
  • Immediately notify an administrator of any unsafe or unsanitary condition and act appropriately to ensure staff and student safety.
  • Communicate with school/district staff about maintenance and custodial matters. Use email and other district communication tools to keep others informed.
  • Completes necessary training annually (blood borne pathogens, infection control, first aid, hazardous materials, etc.); seek appropriate job-related training.

$27.68 - $39.06 per hour
