Job Description
Job Summary Maintains grounds in a safe and attractive manner. Is a member of the snow removal team. Assists department asnecessary. Backs up driver as necessary. Interacts with residents in a variety of ways and settings, including social,recreational, diversional and/or vocational ways. Responsibilities Landscape Design and Maintenance Plants flowers, shrubs and trees. Waters, trims, mulches, deges and weeds all plant beds inaccordance with department procedures and verbal instructions. Ensures plants are placed in proper locationfor needs. Designs landscapes so that it is appealing, attractive and consistent with VHP standards. Maintains overall planning and appearance of grounds. Demonstrates indepth horticultural knowledge. Inspects ground for diseased/infected plants and trees, and makes recommendations. Sees throughtreatment and monitors effectiveness of treatments. Works with residents on garden preferences. Independently performs all functions with little or no supervision. Grounds Maintenance Mows and edges lawns. Rakes lawns of excess clippings and leaves. Ensures all sidewalks and roads are swept clean of debris following mowing. Utilizes grounds equipment properly. Plants flowers, shrubs and trees. Waters, trims, mulches, edges and weeds all plant beds in accordance with department procedures and verbal instructions. Maintains walkways, roads, and parking areas in a high state of repair. Ensures that debris is removed and proper markings are maintained. Immediately reports unusual conditions or situations, and takes appropriate action to correct theproblem. Completes work assigned within time limitations set by department. Rarely requires supervisory follow-up of work quality. Ensures entrance, walkways, parking lots and other areas are cleaned of snow and de-icedaccording to departmental procedure. Peforms necessary functions to keep the lawns weed free and in a neat and healthy condition. Performs Other Duties as Required Identifies appropriate cases of abuse and neglect and demonstrates knowledge of mandatoryreporting requirements. Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Maintains required job knowledge. Attends a minimum of 4 staff meetings per year. Performs other duties as required.
