Job Description

Job Summary The Greenhouse /Production Manager will oversee all operations related to the greenhouse and production and insure processes are managed in an effective manner. The Greenhouse/Production Manager will also supervise the Greenhouse Staff and ensure appropriate safety procedures and training is in place. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees all responsibilities of the Smile Farms greenhouse production.
  • Work closely with the Wholesale/Retail Manager to ensure the operation runs smoothly.
  • Responsible for ordering all plant materials and supplies, fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides.
  • Responsible for ordering all hard goods, containers, and pots for greenhouse production.
  • Responsible for day to day management of greenhouse staff; including hiring, training, conducting performance reviews and addressing performance concerns.
  • Determine the growing time frame for all plants from start to finish so they are ready for sale at the appropriate time.
  • Continually monitors all plant material for insects and diseases.
  • Determines the appropriate fertilizer and pesticide treatments and when to apply.
  • Scheduled the daily assignments for the Day Hab program and works closely with the Day Hab Staff to insure completion.
  • Responsible for planting and irrigation of the crops with the help of the greenhouse staff.
  • Oversee the general maintenance of Greenhouse facilities including heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing and septic/water wells.
  • Ensure all scheduled orders are pulled and ready to go out on time.
  • Ensure all deliveries are appropriately completed.
  • Supports loading and unloading of deliveries.
  • Operate the forklift, truck, bobcat and other equipment as needed.
  • Oversee the construction, repair and operation of all irrigation systems.
  • Organize and care for all the plants in the winterizing section.
  • Manage all Greenhouse staff daily tasks and workload.
  • Ensures that the work environment is safe for all employees.
  • All other duties assigned. Position Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture or related field preferred; High School Diploma required
  • 3-5 Years Supervisory Experience required
  • 7 - 10 years in horticulture or agriculture preferably with greenhouse experience
  • NYS pesticide license preferred (or required within 6 months)
  • Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides required
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Valid NYS driver's license
  • OSHA forklift certification
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
