The Park Ranger Supervisor provides guidance, direction, training, and supervision over the Park Rangers within the Parks and Recreation Department. This is accomplished by performing a wide variety of advanced and specialized duties, providing guidance, monitoring work, and assisting other staff and departments related to Park Ranger duties and responsibilities. The Park Rangers' purpose is to help ensure Maricopa's parks, trails, facilities and public spaces are safe for use and enforce related city code if necessary. While this position is supervisory in nature it is expected this will be a working supervisory role. Leadership will be displayed in the field and by example.

Supervise and work alongside Park Ranger staff in the processing the full scope of park ranger responsibilities and prioritizes the divisions daily work assignments. Supervise and work alongside Park Ranger staff in the mindset that reporting issues and correcting issues including dumping, littering, trash overflow, is a priority and a key function of the position. Prepares supply, equipment, and materials needed to accomplish division tasks; including ordering and keeping inventory of uniforms. Inspects and evaluates completed work of assigned staff. Prepares and reviews reports including incident/accident, activity usage, inventory, enforcement actions, and other position related documents. Create shift and patrol schedule working with other divisions and departments to ensure coverage is prioritized based on highest activity or problem areas. Prepares records, reports, and agendas for department and City leadership. Researches and presents on current trends in non-police enforcement and makes recommendations to department leadership for policy development and modifications. Create and implement training program for direct reports. Participate in department meetings providing feedback in management, reservations, parks, and library team meetings. Work with Police Department to provide strategic response to vandalism and code violations. Work with code enforcement to support anti-dumping/littering efforts including locating, reporting, and removing dumping in trails, washes, and other off-road areas. Prepare and execute service level standards for parks, facilities, and programs and report quality control concerns to appropriate department leads. Lead development of outdoor recreation and environmental education programming. Identify and train staff to identify potential risks and report to maintenance and risk management. Oversee management of Volunteer schedules and duties. Enforce applicable laws, codes, ordinances and other regulations by issuing warnings and citations. Provide event security and logistical support for City events and programs. Resolve conflicts between patrons through de-escalation if possible and expulsion if necessary. Assist with other department events and activities as needed. Perform other department related duties as assigned. Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in parks and resource management, parks and recreation, or a related field. Three (3) years dealing with the public in code or law enforcement or another regulatory enforcement. Three (3) years of FT staff supervision. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of local parks, trails, washes, and other public spaces including high usage times. Knowledge of local roadways and jurisdiction boundaries. Environmental or outdoor recreation programming. City park and general ordinances, regulations, codes, permits, and enforcement standards and techniques. Parks reservation and registration software system. Parks and Recreation policies regarding reservations and events.
Skill in:
Interpersonal communication with ability to clearly communicate standards to direct reports and the public. Handling conflict with public in potentially hostile or uncertain situations. Preparing clear, concise, and accurate reports and other documentation. Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
