A Park Ranger leads informational programs for park visitors about the history and environmental features of public parks, and promote awareness of protecting park land. Welcomes and provides assistance to park visitors, assists with educational programs, oversees park events and activities and patrols park land.
Independently perform or assist in providing quality programing that includes but is not limited to guided hikes, homeschool programs, school programs, public programs, Junior Ranger day camps, special events, and other programming and recreational activities. Provide excellent customer service to park visitors Be willing and able to cross train in other areas of the park Animal husbandry, feeding, and handling of reptiles including land and aquatic turtles and non-venomous snakes
Other Duties Include:
Assist with educational program development Assist park visitors in the Nature Center Assist in or independently perform program planning, set up, implementation, and breakdown Other duties as assigned Position Requirements Maintaining a positive and respectful attitude with park visitors and co-workers Able to work independently and as part of a team Effective and polite public speaker comfortable with groups of all sizes, ages, and demographics Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments during all seasons and weather conditions Comfortable handling and working with and around reptiles including snakes and turtles Willing to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings Willing to work up to 29 hours in a 7-day period (Friday-Thursday) Willing to attain CPR/AED/First Aid certification Must have a valid driver's license and pass a pre-employment background check
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Education/background in the following areas of study: Outdoor Recreation, Interpretation, Environmental Education, Natural Resources, Biology/Ecology, History and/or other related field Previous experience in customer service, public speaking, event planning, parks and/or parks & recreation, school/ youth programs, and/or public programs. Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification
