A Park Ranger leads informational programs for park visitors about the history and environmental features of public parks, and promote awareness of protecting park land. Welcomes and provides assistance to park visitors, assists with educational programs, oversees park events and activities and patrols park land.
Position Summary The Jackson County Parks Dept. has openings available for the 2026 season. We are looking for attendants the Swains Lake and Pleasant Lake campgrounds. Qualified candidates must be a minimum of 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends & holidays. RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Campground Manager, assist in the operation of either Swains Lake or Pleasant Lake Campgrounds, which each include camping, a swimming area and picnic shelters. Functions of the position include registering campers, monitoring on the campground and beach area, bookkeeping, and restroom/shower cleaning maintenance. Regularly interacts with the general public, provides campground and surrounding area information to visitors, coordinates daily reservations, and works with police agencies when appropriate.
Typical Duties:
1. Provide outstanding customer service to park visitors. 2. Represent Jackson County Parks with a friendly, positive attitude. 3. Assignment to the cash handling duties for the shift you are scheduled. 4. Responsible for financial records of the campground and picnic shelters and making bank deposits. 5. Registers campers, takes reservations for camping and picnic shelters. 6. Responsible for inventories (i.e. office store, cleaning and wood supplies) used in the daily operation of the facilities. 7. Open and close the park. 8. Initial rule education and enforcement. 9. Perform custodial and maintenance duties as directed. 10. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action, and promptly notifies supervisory personnel. 11. Does hourly upkeep and cleaning of the restrooms and shower facilities. 12. Does routine park (campground, shelters and beach) clean-up maintenance i.e. keep campground and park/beach areas litter free; BBQ grills, fire rings cleaned and trash barrels emptied on a daily basis. 13. Makes rounds every 1 - 2 hours daily of the campground, shelters and beach, talks with the campers and visitors. Assures a safe and enjoyable environment for guests. 14. Maintain a positive working relationship with police agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or GED certification, and be a minimum of 18 years old. Effective communication skills, ability to do simple math, read and follow instructions, and ability to work independently. Must have computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Available to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the facility, including available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
