  • The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for a Part Time Park Ranger for the Parks and Recreation Department .
The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts. The Town of Clayton is the fastest growing town in Johnston County, which is the fastest growing county in the State of North Carolina. Employees in this position perform duties to assist with security of the Town's Parks and Recreation facilities including buildings, parks, and playgrounds. The work schedule is approximately 20 hours per week with most work consisting of hours during evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Monitors municipal park areas and facilities to promote a safe, welcoming environment, identify and report vandalism, address disruptive behavior, and help ensure compliance with park rules and municipal regulations. Responds to guest or staff accidents/injuries/complaints and completes all necessary reports to document the incident. Open and close facilities based on operating schedules and activities. Observes park areas and facilities to identify safety hazards, unusual conditions, or activities of concern, and takes appropriate action by addressing, reporting, or coordinating responses in accordance with established procedures. Prepare daily reports as required. Provides general assistance to the public. Develops and maintains good public relations with the public and law enforcement officers. Assist with departmental activities and events as assigned. Ensure equipment, including Town vehicles, are in proper working condition. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of principles and practices of first aid and safety. Knowledge of standard resources, materials, and facilities utilized in a public recreation program. Knowledge of the application of information technology to assist with assigned duties. Skill in collaborative conflict resolution, customer service excellence, and problem-solving. Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Ability to operate assigned equipment, including various software packages. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, citizens, employees, supervisors, participants, and partner associations. Ability to perform calmly and exercise sound judgment in stressful or emergency situations. Ability to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Park Ranger certification, BLET certification preferred. Experience in parks and recreation, law enforcement, or security preferred. OR Depending on the position, the Town may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
