Job Description
Position Summary Grind Fire Defense is seeking an experienced, safety-minded Sawyer to join our field crews performing defensible-space, vegetation-management, and forestry work. This is a physically demanding, hands-on position working as part of a crew in outdoor environments that may include steep, uneven, and forested terrain. The Sawyer is responsible for safely operating chainsaws and other equipment to cut, limb, buck, and process trees and vegetation. Additional tasks may include, helping the crew complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule in difficult and dangerous terrain. This is a production based, short term employment contract based in Anderson, with the project in Burney creating a shaded fuel break. Position requires employees to stay three nights per week out of town in provided accommodations. The project is expected to last 6-8 weeks, working 4-10 hour shifts (Overtime after 10 hours). Continued employment after the project is not guaranteed. Further job details will be provided during the interview process. Key Responsibilities Chainsaw & Field Operations Safely operate chainsaws and other equipment used for tree cutting and vegetation clearing. Buck, limb, and process downed trees and vegetation; perform occasional tree felling when qualified and required Brushing and other vegetation-management work Work safely on steep, uneven, and forested terrain while following established cutting and safety practices Crew & Project Support Work as part of a field crew to complete assigned projects safely and on schedule Help organize daily work according to project needs and supervisor direction Communicate clearly with supervisors and crew members regarding progress, hazards, and job-site conditions Assist and train crew members in proper chainsaw and tree-processing techniques when appropriate Equipment & Safety Inspect and maintain chainsaws, tools, and assigned equipment Perform routine chainsaw maintenance, including sharpening, cleaning, and basic upkeep Properly handle and store fuels, oils, and other materials Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly and follow all company safety procedures Minimum Qualifications At least 3 year of chainsaw-operation/ fire line/mitigation/ production level cutting experience (first saw preferred).
