Since 2019, we've partnered with government agencies, municipalities, and leading contractors throughout the tri-state area on major infrastructure, environmental, and community improvement projects. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Tree Operations Superintendent to oversee and manage tree work across our active construction projects throughout New Jersey and New York. This is a senior field leadership position for someone who has built their career in professional tree work and has extensive hands-on experience with tree removal, pruning, climbing, rigging, clearing, stump removal, tree protection, and the equipment associated with these operations. The ideal candidate has progressed from performing tree work themselves to successfully supervising crews and managing larger field operations. They should be capable of evaluating a project, identifying hazards and site constraints, determining the appropriate manpower and equipment, establishing the safest and most efficient means and methods, and directing the work through completion. This is not a general landscape superintendent position . A minimum of 10 years of professional tree work experience is required , along with a thorough understanding of the technical and safety requirements associated with commercial tree operations. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily tree operations and supervise field crews across active construction projects. Plan and supervise tree removals of varying sizes, conditions, and levels of complexity . Direct technical and sectional tree removals where conventional felling is not appropriate. Evaluate trees for lean, weight distribution, structural condition, surrounding hazards, drop zones, escape routes, and appropriate removal methods. Plan and supervise directional felling operations . Oversee tree climbing and aerial lift/bucket truck operations . Plan and direct tree rigging operations , including the controlled lowering of limbs and trunk sections. Ensure proper selection and use of ropes, blocks, slings, lowering devices, climbing equipment, and related tree-work gear. Supervise tree pruning , including deadwood removal, clearance pruning, structural pruning, corrective pruning, and crown work. Coordinate stump grinding and stump removal operations . Oversee large-scale tree clearing and vegetation clearing , including processing, chipping, loading, hauling, and disposal. Establish and maintain proper tree protection measures for trees designated to remain within active construction sites. Coordinate root pruning and root-zone protection where construction activities interface with existing trees. Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, clearing limits, tree-removal plans, and tree-protection requirements. Determine appropriate manpower, equipment, trucking, access, staging, and sequencing for tree operations. Supervise the safe use of chainsaws, pole saws, chippers, stump grinders, bucket trucks, skid steers, excavators, loaders, grapple equipment, and other equipment commonly used in tree operations . Ensure proper chainsaw operation, inspection, maintenance, sharpening, and cutting techniques. Establish and enforce safe drop zones, work zones, equipment zones, and ground-crew procedures . Identify and plan around overhead utilities, underground utilities, roadways, structures, pedestrians, other trades, and jobsite-specific hazards. Coordinate mobilizations and daily movement of crews, equipment, trucking, and materials. Monitor daily production and ensure work is progressing safely and efficiently. Communicate regularly with project management, field personnel, general contractors, inspectors, and other project stakeholders. Identify field conflicts, changed conditions, or safety concerns and communicate them to management promptly. Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment in accordance with company and project requirements. What We're Looking For Minimum 10 years of professional tree work experience required. Extensive hands-on experience with tree removal, pruning, climbing, rigging, clearing, and stump operations . Previous experience supervising professional tree crews and directing field operations. Strong understanding of directional felling, sectional removals, rigging techniques, climbing systems, aerial lift operations, and ground operations . Strong working knowledge of chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, bucket trucks, skid steers, excavators, loaders, and related tree-work equipment. Ability to evaluate a tree and surrounding site conditions and determine the appropriate means and methods for completing the work safely. Ability to recognize hazards associated with compromised trees, utilities, structures, traffic, pedestrians, equipment, and active construction sites. Experience planning manpower, equipment, trucking, mobilizations, and daily production. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, clearing limits, and tree-protection requirements. Strong understanding of professional tree-work safety practices. Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to effectively manage experienced field personnel. Comfortable working primarily outdoors in active construction environments. Able to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey, New York City, Long Island, and surrounding areas as required. Valid driver's license required. ISA Certified Arborist, CDL, OSHA 30, and other applicable tree-industry certifications are preferred. Public works, heavy construction, DOT, municipal, utility, parks, or union construction experience is a strong plus. We are looking for someone who knows tree work from firsthand experience and can bring that knowledge into a leadership role. The successful candidate should be able to walk onto a project, evaluate the work in front of them, recognize potential hazards and challenges, determine what crew and equipment are needed, and establish an effective plan for getting the work completed safely and efficiently.
