SUMMARY OF POSITION

: Serve as member of a tree care crew with primary responsibility to climb and assist Tree Trimming crew in the performance of all services. Perform required ground, climbing and aerial lift duties in support of specific job assignments.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

: Essential Duties

• Assist in performing specialized pruning, takedowns, install cabling and bracing Safely operate chainsaw, chipper, trucks and hand tools Identify native and introduced trees and shrubs in the service area Utilize all appropriate personal protective equipment Perform proper climbing techniques and procedures, pruning and rigging techniques Utilize a basic understanding of tree growth, wounding and pruning Demonstrate sound tree risk assessment skills Demonstrate and practice application of approved knots Assist with driving, backing, dumping and parking trucks Understand and demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of ground person position Learn and understand techniques and procedures necessary to assist in performing plant health care (fertilization, organic and pesticide treatments) Understand dangers associated with electrical hazards Understand and adhere to all safety rules and policies Participate in all safety training sessions Other Important Duties• Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Ability to train as a Tree Trimming Operator.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

:

Knowledge of:

Proper pruning practices including large shade trees and ornamentals, chainsaw safety and operation, tree climbing, bucket truck operation.

Demonstrated ability to:

Perform CPR; lift and maneuver up to 112 lbs. (i.e. loading and unloading debris of tree removals); perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather conditions.

Ability to:

Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; maintain records and files; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees and the general public as well as vendors.

Other:

may handle toxic and/or hazardous materials or work in areas where such materials may be stored.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school graduation or its equivalent. Two years of experience in landscape or tree maintenance, closely related field or equivalent is preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

: State of Texas Class B (commercial) driver's license. Must be able to maintain Cardio Pulmonary Certification. For full job description click on the attachment
