Overview We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Instructor to join our Day Program team. Our Day Program serves individuals with intellectual disabilities. The ideal candidate has the passion and patience to help and teach others. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Day Services Instructor assists individuals receiving services in acquiring and/or maintaining the skills, personal habits and positive attitudes that will enable them to maintain and/or enhance independence. The day service instructor's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Familiarizing self with individual's ISP's, day service plans, and behavior plans to determine likes, dislikes, wants and needs in order to effectively deliver services. Developing and providing structured services and skill building activities designed to meet the needs of individuals receiving services in accordance with their valued goals and assist in the scheduling and planning of same. Participating in the development and directly implementing the day service plan for individuals receiving services to reflect their interests, capabilities and needs, and enhancing their skills and level of independence while maintaining age appropriateness and dignity of individuals. Encouraging individuals to express and develop their individual interests Providing individuals with opportunities to maintain/ enhance their existing skills, overall functioning and independence, and sense of belonging and community integration through various in-house and community activities. Acting as a liaison with churches, clubs, and other groups or organizations to develop natural supports for the individual in the most integrated environments possible in the community. Assisting individuals in achieving their valued goals by providing prompts, reminders, guidance and role modeling in areas such as socialization, personal hygiene, exercise, nutrition, behaviors, etc., while involved in skill building activities. Providing appropriate physical care of assigned individuals to maintain their cleanliness, safety and comfort. This would include tasks such as direct assistance with washing, dressing and toileting, and range of motion. This also includes monitoring, correcting, and modeling appropriate behaviors at lunch and break times. Ensuring safety and welfare of individuals in their movement and transport. Transporting individuals receiving services using Agency vehicle. Taking initiative and working independently or with other persons within program, without supervisory directions. Attending ISP meetings as needed Maintaining accurate program and statistical records, including but not limited to daily tracking and monthly progress notes, as well as any other required documentation in accordance with Agency and regulatory requirements. Using Agency computer databases as needed. Maintaining safe and clean working area and ensuring adequate material or goal implementation. Assisting as needed in other program areas Interacting with multi-disciplinary team to ensure quality programming Participating in staff meetings, in-service meetings, trainings, etc. Consistently complying with all Celebration policies and procedures and operational Guidelines of the Department of Mental Health ID Division. Constantly maintaining high performance standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with staff, individuals receiving services and outside agencies. Performing other duties as assigned. Skills Possess good time management skills and organizational skills Ability and desire to work as part of a team Moderate level of written and oral communication skills High level of interpersonal skills Knowledge of behavioral techniques and developmental disabilities to assist in the care of individuals receiving services Knowledge of computer and ability to utilize word processing programs Physical ability to bend, crouch, squat, push a wheelchair without assistance, and use a Hoyer lift with a partner Requirements Ability to pass a drug screen. Ability to pass a background check Clean driving record with no speeding tickets over 20 mph in the last 3-years, suspended license in the last 3 years, or DUI incidents. No more than 2 speeding tickets (of any speed) in the last 3 years. High School Diploma or GED required. Valid Driver's License in good standing. Must be at least 21-years old due to vehicle insurance requirements.
