This is a full performance level of work, certified by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists at the Associate degree level. The CSC provides a full range of counseling for substance use clients, with the least complex problems as defined by standard treatment criteria, under general supervision from a clinical supervisor, approved by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. Performs other related duties. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07. Candidates must be certified by the Board, of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.
POSITION DUTIES
This position is responsible for the Backbone Mountain Youth Center. Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited, to the following: Provide individual, family, and group substance use counseling services to youth within a secure residential juvenile services setting. Complete substance use screenings, assessments, treatment planning, progress notes, and discharge documentation in accordance with DJS and COMAR standards. Facilitate evidence-based interventions focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation, and recovery support. Respond to behavioral health crises and participate in an on-call rotation to provide emergency clinical support and intervention services. Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams, education staff, medical providers, direct care staff, families, and community providers to support youth rehabilitation and continuity of care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.
Experience :
Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications: Please include at least two desirables below. Experience providing substance use counseling services to adolescents or justice-involved youth. Experience facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups in a residential or secure treatment setting. Knowledge of evidence-based practices related to substance use treatment, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Bilingual skills or experience working with culturally diverse populations.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1.
In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates appointed to positions in this classification must be eligible for and obtain certification by the Board of Professional Counselors as a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug prior to permanent appointment. 2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. 2. Employees in this classification perform the work in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program.
